Our 2 prior experiences were very similar in Texas. When we asked for some info at 2 am, they said we could be waiting 2 to 5 hours more. Initial assessment was 2nd degree burns, may need to go to a burn center, given a pain med, and go back to the waiting area. Our daughter suffered a workplace burn injury to her feet. Last night was the first experience in Vancouver for us waiting 3 plus hours. I guess we've been lucky to only have needed an ER 3 times in the last 12 years. I don't think this is unique to the Portland/Vancouver area. " - Gail Jun 14, 2023, 12:56 PM : "It's painfully clear from a patient's perspective there is NOT enough capacity at ER's. What accounts for such long slipshod treatment now? I feel they're padding the bill also. Years ago my late father in law was bitten by a dog and was instructed to scrub the would with soap and water for 20 minutes. Only when we got insistent did that come and clean the wound. They took x rays and took history and we waited for hours. Certainly a wound could be cleaned and a broad spectrum antibiotic could be accomplished in 10 minutes.
